I will be the first one to complain in saying that there is nothing good to watch on Canadian Netflix. But fear not, fellow nerds! Here are 6 amazing documentaries with geek cred. So whether you feel like streaming them sporadically or binge watching them all at once, trust me; you won’t be disappointed. So what are you waiting for?!?! Go learn something cool about the geek stuff you already love!

*NOTE: These documentaries are available to stream on Netflix as of the publish date of this article. They might not be on Netflix forever. If you are having trouble finding them in the Netflix UI (which is often the problem) search for them.

1: Brick by Brick: Inside Lego

A short but sweet look behind the doors of the LEGO head office in Denmark.

2: Inside Pixar: We’re About Telling Stories

Want to know the history of one of the best animation studios in 30 minutes? This documentary will take you from Andre & Wally B. to Cars.

3: Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

On the heels of the new Michael Bay TMNT movie comes a documentary that will teach you everything you need to know about your favourite turtles in a half shell. Did you know there was a TMNT musical!? And better yet, the creative mind behind the doc, filmmaker Randal Lobb, is Canadian!

4: Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle

Split into 3 chapters and narrated by Sabretooth himself, Live Schreiber, Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle takes you through this history of comic books and the origins and evolution of your favourite superheroes. Being released in 2013, the coverage of superheroes is brought right to the present day, showing recent movies such as the Avengers, and video games like Batman: Arkham City.

5: Trek Nation

As much as this is a documentary of the history of Star Trek, it’s also the story about a son who is trying to learn about his deceased father through the segment of pop culture he created.

6: Indie Game: The Movie

For those who want to know the process, stress and gratification behind building your own video game, this is the documentary for you. It follows the creation of the games Super Meat Boy and Fez, while it reflects on the success of Braid. Another Canadian made doc here too!
